Where bathrooms go in Grange Park’s houses and flats
Enfield’s building control records for the three conservation-area roads show where bathrooms are added, and its 2015 appraisal of the parades shows what it counts as harmful on their outside.
In the loft, the records include a new en-suite shower room for an existing loft room in a house on The Grangeway, marked Building Work Complete in a 2008 record; an en-suite and three roof windows added to a refurbished loft room on Old Park Ridings, complete after a 2023 application; and a bedroom and bathroom in an existing loft space on The Chine, received in 2024. In the conservation area a roof extension needs planning permission, and on a scheduled house so does a change to a roof slope that fronts a highway, open space or waterway.

The records also include WCs and en-suites in rear extensions: a part single, part two-storey extension on The Chine with a ground-floor utility room and WC and an en-suite above, applied for in 2016 with no status shown, and a single-storey extension with a new internal toilet and utility room on The Grangeway, marked complete after a 2022 application. Two older records, from 2000 and 2001, are regularisations, Enfield’s route for approving work after the event: a storage room made into a bathroom on The Chine and a bathroom installed at an Old Park Ridings address, both marked complete.

Above the Grangeway shops, a bathroom sits in a flat over a business. The appraisal lists extract ducts, with satellite dishes and poor fascias and windows, among the poor-quality additions it records on the parades and the flats or offices above them, and calls the extract ducting at the rear of the parade, as seen from Nestor Avenue, very unattractive. It does not say what any of that ducting serves. For a new fan in one of these flats, look for the least visible outlet and agree it with the freeholder and, if the outside changes, with Enfield.
