Does a house on the edge of the Heath face extra planning questions?
It can, if the house is inside the Hampstead Neighbourhood Plan area, which Camden adopted in July 2025. Its text for the areas on the Heath's fringes says development there must seek to preserve and enhance their lush open character, and that development with a visual and physical relationship to the Heath should minimise any impact on it. Check whether the address is within the plan boundary; the adopted plan is on Camden's website.
Can the house stay occupied while the work goes on?
That depends on how the work is phased. Agree which rooms stay usable at each stage and whether a temporary kitchen or bathroom will be needed. Plan dust protection, and the times when water, heating or power will be off. If the garden doors or terrace are being rebuilt, decide early how the household will get in and out.
Can a bathroom or fitted joinery be planned in with the house?
Yes. Planning them together lets the pipe runs for a new bathroom share routes with the rest of the house, and lets wardrobes or shelving be built around sockets, radiators and garden-facing windows.
