RBKC says licences are needed from the Council before erecting scaffolding, hoardings, gantries, temporary crossings or fences on the highway, depositing a skip, or operating a mobile crane, aerial platform or concrete pump lorry.

RBKC's Code lists basement excavation or extension, full demolition and re-construction of a property, major developments and use of a full-size piling rig for three months or more as Category 1.

The Ladbroke Conservation Area was designated in 1969 as one of RBKC's earliest conservation areas, and its appraisal (adopted 15 October 2015) locates the centre of the conservation area at the peak of Notting Hill, with the estate's concentric crescents, terraces and communal gardens fanning out from the summit following the contour lines of the hill.

The Pembridge Conservation Area (appraisal adopted 30 January 2017) covers quiet residential streets of late Georgian and Victorian date between Westbourne Grove to the north, Notting Hill Gate to the south and Pembridge Road and Portobello Road to the west, with those primary thoroughfares giving parts of the area a distinct commercial character.
