Bespoke joinery in Primrose Hill
Fitted storage, cabinetry and the room around it.
Discuss your projectStart with the bespoke joinery brief
Start with what the furniture needs to hold and how you use the room. Record alcoves, ceiling heights, skirtings, sockets and radiator positions before setting cabinet depths or door swings. Keep the details worth retaining in the measured brief.
Agree internal layouts, lighting, ventilation, hardware and finish samples before manufacture. Drawings should show how new joinery meets uneven walls and existing cornices, and how access for installation will work.
The local building context
Camden’s Primrose Hill conservation statement, adopted in December 2000, divides the area into Regent’s Park Road South, Central Area, Regent’s Park Road North and Gloucester Crescent. Use the relevant street context when surveying retained details and planning changes.
Chalcot Square and Crescent have distinctive stucco terraces, railings and lightwells; the wider statement also describes villa streets and small mews or courtyard buildings. These differences make existing floor levels, access and retained details useful starting points for a refurbishment brief.
Use Camden’s map and conservation guidance for your building. Primrose Hill, Eton and Elsworthy are separate conservation designations with their own boundaries. A neighbourhood name or NW1 postcode does not settle listing, an Article 4 direction, ownership or the applicable private permissions.

Local design and consent context
Use the Primrose Hill conservation statement to understand the building’s contribution to its street and the features affected by the work. Establish the actual Article 4 coverage and specified rights before replacing windows, altering a frontage or changing external finishes.
Painting, dormers and rear extensions each need their own assessment. Do not assume that every external job needs the same application, or that a standard extension depth or percentage of garden coverage guarantees permission. Check the proposal against the applicable rules, adopted policy and the building’s setting.
For your brief, describe the existing levels and the changes proposed. Establish the engineering, basement impact assessment and permissions needed for excavation; listed-building consent, Building Regulations and private permissions can still apply to work within an existing room.

Access and site planning
Camden’s normal noisy-building-work hours are 8am–6pm Monday to Friday and 8am–1pm Saturday. Authorisation is needed outside these hours, including Sundays and bank holidays. Check any tighter planning condition or building-management rule before agreeing deliveries and the construction sequence.
